We purchased a whole house water filter a couple of years ago that came with about 3 years worth of cleaning solutions, including dishwasher detergent. It’s not a brand you can buy in stores, so I can’t suggest it as something to try. Though, I must say I have a similar problem. I have to pretty much pre~wash everything (which is definitely not good for our water consumption) and make sure there are no food leavin’s on the dishes before I run the dishwasher. Perhaps without all the extra chemicals, that’s just what happens?
