My friend Lauren – another PCV – made a jack o’lantern from a huge orange squash while she was living with her Chilean host family during training. After Halloween, she saw her Chilean mom sneaking out every afternoon, looking around furtively and hacking a piece of the jack o’lantern off to put in the evening soup.
