Fast Fact: Ride your bike

Studies show that 1% of trips are by bike.   If that number went up 1/2%, we’d save 462 million gallons of gas per year.

  1. Oh I have some great ideas about this: split the sidewalk in two, have one side for pedestrians and one side for bikers. That way bikes wouldn’t have to compete with cars. Soooooooo much safer.

  2. Kim, I’m torn on the sidewalk vs. road option for bikes. I’ve done both and, frankly, in an old town like mine, with all the obstacles (sign posts, lights, brick walls), the sidewalk is a scary place to bike. That said, I’ve also almost been hit by a car and a truck, so the road can be dangerous. My favorite is when municipalities actually invest in a little road paint and just add bike lanes.
