I love to decorate for the holidays-all of them-but some of you know I was laid off for the summer so my budget for decorating isn’t what it used to be but that’s okay. I just have to think a little more and try to be creative–not always an EZ task. But just because I’m trying to be creative and cheap that doesn’t mean I want any less beauty on my table, at my door or in my house. So I decided to go for a walk and contemplate the process. While I was walking, I found some pine cones laying on the sidewalk.
I picked them up and took them home to use in my decorating.
Then I had my husband trim some holly and cedar from the yard.
I put the clippings together in an old centerpiece vase I’d saved for this type of occasion. I reused the floral foam to stick the holly, cedar and pine clippings in.

Then I stuck a candle in the center and used some Christmas tree balls to finish the piece.
It didn’t cost me anything and I think it turned out pretty. Plus, I was helping protect the planet at the same time by reusing, recycling and reducing consumption. What better way to Go Green for Christmas?
I also stuck some of the clippings into my metal vases on the porch and up over my armoir.

I’d say pretty nice for free.

I love these ideas.
In our house, we re-use the same decorations year after year — our painted nutcracker collection, a wreath made out of jingle bells, etc. — and then supplement with greenery from our yard.
That is beautiful! We only bought a tree this year–the rest was from the Great Outdoors, too!
Lovely and creative, too!
