Captain Compost has a lot of people on her list to send holiday cards to. Friends, family members, teachers, neighbors, co~workers, etc. It can get to be really overwhelming! It also takes a lot out of the earth, from the trees cut down to make the paper for the cards to the gas the postal service uses to transport all those cards all over the country.
Last year the Compost Family decided to try something new. They’d been using e~cards for birthdays for several years. Why not try an e~Holiday card as well? Mr. Captain Compost used some photos from the past year and merged them into a PDF document to add to the annual holiday letter that they used to update friends and family of the prior year’s activities. It was personal and colorful and easy! The Compost Family was able to send greetings to hundreds of people with the click of a mouse button. No trees were injured and no stamps were purchased. It was economical and fun! They intend to keep up this tradition each year.
If you don’t like the idea of E~greetings, recycled holiday cards are another great option. Although much more time consuming and hand cramping, it is a more personal way to send your holiday greetings. Here are some that Captain Compost likes:
No matter which route you go, Captain Compost and her family send their best wishes for a delightful holiday season to you and your family!

I love the *idea* of e-cards, but I’m just not there yet.
I did switch from sending glossy photo cards to cardboard cards with the photos inserted, so that’s *slightly* more eco.
I like to reuse my cards, too; they become the next year’s tags. It’s both frugal and green.
Daisy, I do the same thing too and, in fact, will be posting about it later this month.
