The Eco Women want to share some of their holiday spirit by having a giveaway!
What’s the prize?
It’s this handy dandy organic cotton shopping bag:
All you have to do is leave a comment telling the Eco Women either 1) what new eco action you’ve tried in 2009 or 2) an eco goal you have for 2010.
The contest is open until 6 p.m. EST on Thursday, December 31. The winner will be notified over the weekend and announced the following Monday.
Good luck!

Hi! I plan on trying to rely less on plastic containers next year. My husband’s willing but he’s less likely to hang in there if it’s more of a bother than he likes: I’ll wash plastic baggies and resuse them, and so will he, but both of us are bad about actually washing them. So I’m looking into cloth and PUV-lined cloth sandwich bags/wraps and glass or stainless steel food containers. I’ll also buy more cloth pads for my own use and hope to try my hands at furoshiki for both gift wrapping and general carrying-of-stuff.
That is the best bag ever!!
My good Eco deed next year will be getting our community to have a green festival…to encourage more people to do their ‘bit’!!
We’ll carry on with all our attempts to reuse and recycle…the reed bed has grown brilliantly and our waste is down to half a bag a week for the dustmen…just need the rest of the village to follow suit!:-)

This last year we’ve gotten ourselves completely into the habit of bringing reusable bags with us wherever we go (even places like CVS and Target), and we’ve been conserving water by flushing less often – ‘if it’s yellow let it mellow, if it’s brown, flush it down’. Hope that’s not too much information!
For 2009 I’ve been carrying reusable bags in the car so I have them when I go shopping. Since my track record could use some improvement, for 2010 I’m going to post a reminder so the bags will actually make it into the store!
I’ll play! For 2010 I plan to get my garden going gang busters to grow at least 80% of our veggies for the year. And to try to cut down on my use of plastics!
Great looking bag, ladies! I continue to do battle with plastic. This year I stopped using plastic wrap. This coming year I intent to completely eliminate the use of those plastic zip-lock bags to store stuff in the freezer and fridge. My goal is to use wax paper, freezer paper, aluminum foil and to reuse the bags inside cereal boxes. I will also be more diligent about reusing the bags we get in the produce department to put our fruit and veggies in. I will keep several in each of my reuseable bags.
I’ve increased by several small steps in 2009: my favorite was going entirely to cloth napkins. My goal for 2010; learn to can or dehydrate food to make better use of the garden produce.
I’d love to have one of these bags. We’ve had a busy year of ec0-friendly projects in our “year of living charitably” effort. This past year our family has picked up 18 pounds of trash from our local beach during one long hike (http://tinyurl.com/dl3gof); picked up trash in our neighborhood (http://tinyurl.com/ydzlu9e); learned to be more diligent about not USING plastic bags, and recycling them when they find their way into our lives anyway (http://charitabledeeds.blogspot.com/2009/01/recycling.html); donated our used magazines to the library for reuse (and financial support of our local library) (http://tinyurl.com/ye9d5jd); recycled our own used oil (http://tinyurl.com/ybajbxm); donated clothes we’d outgrown to the local shelter (http://tinyurl.com/ycfr9zo); recycled glass, plastic and aluminum throughout the year (http://charitabledeeds.blogspot.com/2009/01/recycling-glass-plastic.html); donated our old glasses (and as lifelong wearers we had a LOT of them) to Lion’s Club (http://charitabledeeds.blogspot.com/2009/01/donate-old-glasses-prescription-and-non.html).
Short of NOT using our resources, I find recycling a great way to help preserve our environment.
In 2010, we’ll do a lot of the same AND try to learn more eco-friendly habits. Thanks for helping to educate the world on blog-entry at a time!
I’ve started using reusable grocery bags as well as vegetable bags. Also making cloth napkins and even flannel tissues. This year we have been recycling all our newspapers, can and bottles. Don’t have many cans and bottles now though since I have given up soda and am no longer buying water bottles (I have a camelbak bottle that I carry everywhere). Am planning a Green “Life Celebration” at my church instead of having a birthday party for me. We will have service projects to do, recycled crafts for the kids and lots of info on green living. Also have started using green cleaners at home and am looking into it for the church.
