Last week, the Eco Women talked about their 2009 eco resolutions and their successes and failures.
Today, they’ll tell you about their goals for 2010.
- She wants to maximize her space in her garden and increase her yields of organic fruits and veggies. She wants to get rid of pests in an eco-friendly way. She is going to get a second compost bin and will also try worm composting.
- When Captain Compost and her family eat out, they are going to make an effort to eat only at places that prepare healthy foods and hopefully find restaurants that use organic ingredients.
For 2010 she is going incorporate more whole foods into her diet. She was recently inspired by a chef who does this for a living.
- Learn to can vegetables.
- Make better use of garden.
- Vigilantly recycle plastic bags.
- Get control of Reed Canary Grass — an invasive species on her Wisconsin property.
- Explore the possibility of getting solar panels for her house.
This year, she’d like to take more advantage of this, instead of buying bottled water when her reusable bottle has been emptied during the day.
This year she is going to try to reuse yarn to make new projects, garden more, reuse old game pieces for some new art projects, can some of her produce (she already cans her jams), and rebuild some of her garden furniture.
- Recycla is going to ramp up her gardening efforts to produce even more bounty for her table than ever. She’s also going to make an effort to preserve more food for the cold months.
- Recycla is also pledging to have 40-50 “No Drive Days” in 2010. This means that she and her family will not drive their cars for an entire 24 hour period. Instead, they will walk or bike or simply stay home. As of today, the family has already had two such days this year.

Also last week, TreeHugger had an article about how over half of all Americans are making eco goals for 2010. This is a fabulous number and the Eco Women are thrilled to see that so many people are getting the message that saving Planet Earth is important.
Tell the Eco Women: What are your eco goals for 2010?

Goal #1: Get the fence up around the garden so it won’t be ravaged by turkeys, guinea hens, deer, or any other such wildlife that chooses.
Goal #2: Get my compost back up and running. (I’ll bring some starter over from my old house.)
Goal #3: Add some good compost into the rest of our un-landscaped, disturbed area (from building the house) and plant some low maintenance grass and some xeriscaping.
Goal #4: Get my dang Prius back stat! Driving an SUV is killing me. Stoopid deer.
Hey, Enviro-girl; shall we learn to can together?
We should! I’d be game!
I’m already a fairly radical environmentalist, but this year I plan on using my car less, growing more veggies so I can sell some and continuing to use less electricity…
