The Eco Women are celebrating their second blog anniversary this week! Check out our daily giveaways and leave comments to win prizes.
Just a few months before Girl Wonder was born (hard to believe that was 2 years ago!), I learned about the dangers of BPA and how it could be found in many baby bottles at the time. I dove in, head first, and searched the internet for lists of safer baby bottle choices.
With more research, I learned that BPA can be found in other items as well, such as:
- canned foods (except Eden’s Organic canned beans)
- beverage cans
- 5 gallon polycarbonate water jugs (the types used in dispensers in offices)
- food processors and blenders
- food storage containers
- baby teethers, plates, cups, and cutlery
Resources are out there to help you with lists of safer baby and children’s products such as those found on The Soft Landing, Safemama, and ZRecommends. In honor of our two year anniversary here at Eco Women, we’re giving away a $20.00 gift certificate to The Soft Landing to make it even a little easier! The products offered in their store are also PVC-free and phthalate-free too.
Just leave a comment here to enter!
Tune in every day this week, as the Eco Women give away prizes to celebrate their two year blogiversary. All giveaways are open until 8 p.m. EST on Friday, March 12. Winners will be randomly chosen and contacted over the weekend.
The Eco Women are not employed by the companies mentioned, nor were they compensated in any way.

Wow what a great source of information. I would never have thought of where BPA’s are. You made me call some companies and I am happy as to how they responded but we have a long way to go.
Wow…you just made me rethink somethings.
I switched to glass storage containers, but I didn’t think about my food processor’s plastic containing BPA! Yikes.
Okay, I want to win this one! So perfect. The Girl is just starting solids and I’m in need of some new containers. I make all my own baby food from organic foodstuffs, but I need some new means to safely freeze/store it!
You Ecowomen have great ideas
In other BPA-news: The Vita-Mix company has started making their blender tops out of copolyester instead of polycarbonate, so that they will no longer contain or leach BPA. Folks with older Vitamix tops can “upgrade” for relatively cheap.
After commenting here that I was having trouble finding BPA-free cash register receipts, I got an email from a paper “converter” offering to sell me BPA-free receipt paper. I also found a company in Washington state, http://www.posguys.com that sell BPA-free receipt and shelf tag papers, and promptly bought some. My grocery store is working to become BPA-free as soon as possible – this could of course take a while, as we have to convince all the canned goods manufacturers to change the way they can foods.
still overwhelmed with all the info about BPA. Thankful you’re here to help sort it out!
I love reading SafeMama and ZRecommends too. And of course, you guys too. Thanks for doing your part to make this planet (not to mention blogosphere) a better place.

Our first wee one is due in just a few weeks – perfect timing!
Thanks for all of the great information and thanks for the giveaway. I love the soft landing.
I’m a huge fan of The Soft Landing and appreciate all the research and collecting of information that they do for us moms. My blog is also about safe and innovative products for moms who care, aka Obsessed Moms.
