Getting ready for Spring

After two months of hard winter, Recycla is more than ready for Spring.  She lives in Virginia, which is normally not a bad place to be during the cold months; however this year, her little city has received almost 60″ of snow, which is about 54″ more than usual.    Even now, after  three weeks of above-freezing and nearly-warm temperatures, Recycla has large, deep, dense piles of snow in parts of her yard.

Is it no wonder then that she is desperate for Spring?

Recycla wishes she had such a lovely collection of blue Mason jars!

In the past week or so, Recycla has been on a frenzy of cleaning, organizing, and de-cluttering.  She has cleaned and organized her pantry — no more plastic containers for food storage.  Instead, all of her bulk foods are now stored in mason jars, of which she had plenty on hand.  Next up is the large pile of stuff that she’s been meaning to donate for weeks.  Recycla will finally get around to boxing it all up and getting it out of her house.

Apparently, Recycla is not alone in this desire for order, cleanliness, and simplicity.  Next week, Apartment Therapy will launch their annual Spring Cure — eight weeks of step-by-step ideas to help you make your home beautiful and healthy.  This isn’t just about redecorating and reorganizing; it’s also about getting a grip on your consumption and helping you cut back on the amount of stuff you have.  The overall goal is “to invest in our own homes through either elbow grease, money, or both and make our homes beautiful, healthy, and organized.”

  1. Things are pretty organized here. It’s a small apartment and clutter would be too stressful.
The only part of my apartment that needs a makeover is my walk-in closet. It needs some shelves or cubbies.

  2. I do have a collection of blue mason jars! But the lids scare me, so they are currently just on display.

Does the answer “my hubby and kid” qualify? : ) Alright then – my closet. Oy vey. It’s on my list of things to tackle this weekend. Get the cruddy old stuff (and the maternity stuff) out and the good stuff where I can see it so I actually wear it.
