No Plastic Day

Fellow Eco Warriors, mark your calendars for Tuesday, June 8No Plastic Day.  That’s four weeks from today.

No Plastic Day is  a day in which the goal is to try not to buy plastic, use plastic, or throw away plastic.

Why is this so important?  Here’s what the No Plastic Day website says:

No Plastic Day is a world wide event intended to bring awareness of the over consumption of disposable plastic goods such as plastic bags and bottles. It is well known that there are floating islands of trash in most of the world’s oceans. The huge amounts of plastic trash we all discard daily doesn’t decompose, doesn’t break down, and most of it is toxic to the animals that accidentally consume it. The current rate of plastic consumption is not sustainable and is starting to create a huge problem for marine life particularly. Fish eat toxic plastic bits. We catch the fish and eat the fish. Its only a matter of time before we’ve polluted our own food supplies with plastic trash.

We all dispose of far too much plastic trash every day. Plastic doesn’t decompose and is often toxic to the environment.  Plastic is made from oil and there some estimates that we use up to one-third of the U.S. oil supply just on producing plastics. The ongoing situation with the oil spill in the Gulf shows the very real effects of our over-consumption of oil.

Today, Recycla is over at the Women’s Colony talking about the different easy ways you can cut back on your plastic use.

Fellow Eco Warriors, your mission today, should  you choose to accept it, is to go to the No Plastic Day website and read what they have to say.  Sign up to participate on June 8.  Join the Facebook group.  Spread the word among your friends.

If you care about the oceans, the planet, and your health, please spread the word. Thanks for your help and support.

One Response to No Plastic Day

  1. This is great! Thank you for spreading the word about No Plastic Day. We should all be mindful (not just on June 8th, but every day) to reduce waste and recycle.
